Hello! We are still alive and drooling.

Wren has, just this afternoon, discovered that being put down for a brief period of time is not actually the end of the world. This frees my hands for blogging, though who knows for how long.

There is so much happening here, and at the same time very little. I suppose it depends on your perspective; if you are the fascinated-with-developmental-changes-and-bowel-movements type, we are a household of nonstop fun. If you are the why-does-every-new-parent-obsess-about-baby-poop type, then I got nothin’ for ya. Because, the poop, it is a frequent topic of conversation around here. Which baby did it, how often, how much, what color and consistency – yes, we discuss these things. I won’t bore you with the details, except to say that my daughter’s no-poop record is now seventeen days. I was pretty impressed with that. Not as impressed as I was with the eventual product, which filled a diaper and covered my left side from hip to shoulder, but didn’t I say no details?

In non-poop news, the babies voted for Obama, and were disappointed by Clinton’s campaign tactics. I tried to explain political strategy to them and described the historical importance of both campaigns, but, y’know, they’re babies. Short attention spans. Frankly, I think they voted based on this poster. (It is a good poster, though.)

Both babies like to spend their days at the bookstore, not because they are particularly literate or fond of lattes, but rather because it has air conditioning, and our house does not. This makes tandem nursing at home a very sweaty endeavor, but we keep at it.

And this is what happens when we are done with tandem nursing and have fallen victim to both sleep and gravity. And yes, we’re going bald. It’s so sad.

Speed wrap-up, because Wren is beginning to fuss: we love Bumgenius and the Whoozit, hate sunhats and the stroller, and the dangly kitty-faced toy on our swing is starting to freak us out.

Ah, an update…I can stop holding my breath. Bald is not so bad. I had a baldy myself once.

Now, when Wren finally pooped, was it just once or a multiple wave encounter? When SilliKid had her record no-pooping period, the day she started again it was like six huge poos in half an hour. After the first two I stopped re-diapering her and just laid her on a flat diaper until the next wave. Truly impressive.

The sliding baby amuses me too, although I’m sure you were less entertained than Annika and me.

Glad to here things are going well.

Notice how much sweeter and dear it is when little baby poop (talk) is in the air. Yet when the same species gets much, much older and they end up talking about the same old shit and schedules and regularity, et all, it is unbearable. I vote for youthful cuteness (and Obama!).!

Ahhh, I remember the days when the poop schedule seemed so important. And the explosions. Now, when WMG is in the bathroom for an extended period of time, we will yell out (from ANYWHERE in or outside of the house) “ARE YA POOPIN’?!”

It’s still funny. As are fart jokes and anything containing the word (or even syllable) “butt”. Which pretty much sums up Crazy McCain.

teh cuteness! they aren’t all that bald — and anyway [here’s a parenting tip that works for the teen years, too!], the hair will keep growing.

also, i promise that poop talk will not be top of the agenda after some time. it is a huge part of the agenda early on, though — the thought of tandem pooping makes me a little dizzy, to tell the truth. you’re doing great! and the babies too, obviously.

The Physicist didn’t like his baby stroller either… and his first words were said after he was put in it one day, “help! help!”

We love Bum Genius too! We bought 3 dozen upon Oliver’s arrival and haven’t regretted it for a minute. Such great diapers.

We’re glad you’re all doing well, despite gravity. ;o)

So they do in fact get cuter by the day. I knew it!

We’re off in Florida now, but as soon as we get back we’re coming by to see you all.

Do you think tiny flamingos would freak them out? They’ve got TONS of them here. TONS!
I think they’re too young for clams with googly eyes playing poker.

So you use the reusable nappies…can you give me some advice? Arent they really expensive for twins? And do you spend your entire life stirring the nappy bucket and doing washing, or is it under control?

I was thinking of starting them off with disposables for the first gush of baby pooing, then when they slow down, go to reusables, but what would you advise????
